DFW at BMAD 2012
A huge congratulations to all Devon Freewheelers who attended the BMAD 2012 festival. This from Les May, one of our riders:
What a terrific weekend. Thanks everybody for your company and infectious enthusiasm, it's a pleasure to be involved in such a fantastic organisation. I honestly believe that we must have presented a fine image of Devon Freewheelers; warm, friendly, accommodating, informative and proud of what we do - and rightly so.
See here for a gallery of photos taken over the weekend:

What is Devon Freewheelers EVS - Mission Statement
Welcome to Devon Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Services. We are a registered charity (Registered with the Charity Commission 1138889) operating throughout the United Kingdom providing a completely free of charge emergency response courier service to the NHS.
The objectives of the charity is to relieve sickness and protect patient health by the provision of transport of urgently needed blood, drugs, human tissues, and other medical requirements between hospitals and blood transfusion banks.

Our services are offered to any NHS establishment, on an out of hours basis from 1700hrs in the evening to 0700hrs in the morning; monday to friday. During weekends and bank holidays our services are offered on a 24hr basis. We are providing a service outside the hours of the regular transport services; thereby providing a massive saving to hospitals in contractor courier fees, taxi fees, front line ambulance crews and even air ambulances.
Following recent negotiations with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; our services have also been extended to transport Human Donor Breast Milk between the Milk Banks in Southampton and the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In exceptional circumstances we can deliver to or collect from the patients home address, provided the starting point or finishing point is an NHS establishment. This service is available to community midwives, district nurses and doctors on Call.
Our services are offered by volunteers, who have received advanced training and undergo regular reviews of their skills. They give up their time to serve the community and save lives. They do this in the knowledge that they will probably never meet the beneficiary and that the same person will probably never know of our services nor that we have played any part in their recovery. Our emergency response vehicles are fully kitted and adapted to carry the Clinimed systems, which are NHS approved for maintaining the cool chain from collection to delivery and our volunteers have even used their own bikes to transport non-urgent items that have no control requirements. All of our personnel carry official identity cards which are worn at all times when on duty.

If you would like to use our services, simply call our duty co-ordinator now on 0300 800 0101. We would be delighted to help you. All we ask is that your transfer is a medical one and that you understand we are volunteers and may or may not be able to help immediately if we are on another job. In order to prioritise you will be asked if your request is urgent or an emergency. The higher category will always take precedence.
Devon Freewheelers EVS is registered with the Information Commissioners Office and is bound by the Data Protection Act 1976 and all information passed is treated with the privacy protection it deserves.
If you're new to the site, want to join Devon Freewheelers EVS and help us by raising the funds we need to keep our bikes on the road, then please use the 'Contact Us' link above. We receive no funding and are not entitled to lottery grants etc., as we serve the NHS. We need every penny you can raise. Thank you.
