Today is #BloodBikeDay, where we recognise and celebrate the incredible work that blood bike organisations do across the world!
This year we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Devon Freewheelers! Since our founding in 2009, we've been there to help the NHS and the community, by providing a free courier service for essential NHS medical items. We've helped hundreds of thousands of patients, and saved the NHS well over £1,500,000!
Like other blood bike groups, we're a charity, and rely on the support of our wonderful volunteers and the public to keep our operation going. Our volunteers are based across Devon and in the Dorchester area, they volunteer their time to ride, drive, control and fundraise for us and help the NHS and the community every day.
There's no better way to learn all about the work of Devon Freewheelers Blood Bikes than to watch the award winning short documentary, Hidden Heroes: Riding for Life. It can be found on our YouTube channel here:
As a charity, we receive no regular government or NHS funding and therefore we rely on the generosity of the public to sustain our vital service. Every donation is very gratefully appreciated and will help us to keep our bikes and cars, fuelled, maintained and available 24/7 365 to support the NHS in anyway we can.
